biennial event to be held in New York, Copenhagen, Lagos, Hamburg, Miami, Milan, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo and DC

Social Media Week begins in cities around the world, from Monday, with a series of events in the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia to explore the social, cultural and economic media and social networks.

The event marked its fifth year with a global problem that is said to "explore the openness and collaborative networked world", with speakers and workshops designed to attract the media, advertising and business. since its launch in 2008, Social Media Week has grown to include events in cities across

two

weeks in February and September.

This month, events and activities will take place in New York - where the event is supported by the Guardian - Copenhagen, Hamburg, Lagos, Miami, Milan, Paris, Singapore, Tokyo and Washington DC. Most events will be broadcast live online.

Google also has a strong presence with a Google+ team offering a master class in using Google Hangouts - their live chat tool. Several media outlets have invested a lot of time and effort using Hangouts to engage readers and community HuffPost Live uses the platform as a social problem in video service in both directions, while the Washington Post is one of many media groups who have used the function to assume its users.

In another highly anticipated event, Eli Pariser of Upworthy and Alexis Ohanian of Reddit discuss the fight for the protection of free information on the Internet, and the "need to" encourage governments and social networks allow people to create content unfiltered, in an attempt to preserve the freedom of expression.

February last year Social Media Week attracted more than 36,000 participants, more than 1000 events, organizers said. Some speakers speak in 2500 in 12 cities, with hundreds of thousands of people who participate in online events.
